Ole's a one-off, says Sir Alex
vSir Alex Ferguson says Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's ability to make an
impact from the bench is a rare and invaluable commodity within the
game.
One, and probably the best known, of the many hallmarks of
Solskjaer's make-up is the incredible knack he has of registering
himself as a scoring substitute.
His most famous super-sub appearance came against Bayern Munich in
the 1999 European Cup final when he fired an injury-time winner,
while the 33-year-old's two goals so far this season have both come
after stepping off the bench.
"In all my years as a manager I've never come across a player like
Solskjaer who has the ability to come on and make an impact the way
he does," revealed Sir Alex.
"I'm not sure why he's so effective - it could be down to his
temperament or his nature. He watches the game very closely and
concentrates on what's happening on the pitch and I think that
gives him an advantage.
"He showed against Celtic what he's made of," added the boss. "Some
people might have thought his goal was a simple tap-in, but it
wasn't.
"The great thing about it was how he created the goal for himself
through his awareness; he showed fantastic goalsense."
