To me,actually, there are 4 you are talking about
1) Attacking football
2)Fighting Spirit
3) Passion
4) Never say die
In the 90s, we have abundance of all that, and it was the most
successful domestic era for MUFC.
Key was then, we got a group of young players who came from the
academy, trying to put their stamp on the game. And I remember,
Mark Lawerson remarked that SAF is trying to use Kids to win the
game. And SAF used that siege menality to unite his players. And on
top of that, he got Cantona, the passion, and Keane, the
personifcation of last 3 characteristics.
At his prime, Keane was MUFC though and though. And this is the
onfield leader that MUFC lacked now. And dare I say, even Gunners
is suffering when they lose Vieira.
Liverpool got their Gerrard, Chelsea got their Terry. Their eyes
burned with passion, and you know they will give 101% just to get
the "W".
Now, in MUFC, only one comes to mind, it is "Rooney".
To me, he got what Keane got and Cantona, and also their
temper.
In such competitive sports, you need aggressions but Rooney need to
tune down a bit.
Now as teams get more exposed to international or Major European
competitions, attacking football is not the same as before. In EPL,
if you attack and lose the ball, you can get it back fast, but not
so in major cups matches. so most teams have tailored their plays
to be more productive and less wastage.
I believe Chelsea and Porto were such under Mourniho. They were
productive, and more brain..
Just my two cents worth..
