Reds get set for qualifiers
No fewer than 15 United stars will be in action for their countries
over the coming two weeks as the Euro 2008 qualifiers get
underway.
Five Reds have been named in the England squad for the games with
Andorra - at Old Trafford on Saturday - and Macedonia four days
later.
Rio Ferdinand, who is fit enough to join up with the squad after a
scan revealed he had bruised his toe rather than broken it, Wes
Brown, Kieran Richardson, Ben Foster and Michael Carrick are all
involved, however, Wayne Rooney is suspended for both games
following his World Cup dismissal against Portugal, while Gary
Neville is also missing with a calf injury.
Despite suffering from a broken wrist, Nemanja Vidic is included in
Serbia's 20-man squad for their first competitive games with
Azerbaijan and Poland. Sir Alex Ferguson has sanctioned Vidic's
inclusion following an agreement with Serbia boss Javier Clemente
that the Reds' defender will only be used if needed.
Louis Saha has been named in the French squad to face Georgia and
Italy, but fellow Red Mikael Silvestre misses out.
Darren Fletcher is included in Walter Smith's 23-man squad for
Scotland's double-header against the Faroe Islands and
Lithuania.
Ryan Giggs will skipper Wales during their trip to the Czech
Republic in their opening Euro 2008 qualifier on Saturday. John
Toshack's Welsh side will then take on Brazil in a friendly at
White Hart Lane three days later.
Steve Staunton's Republic of Ireland squad to face Germany in
Stuttgart on Saturday includes both John O'Shea and Liam
Miller.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Cristiano Ronaldo will be in action for
Norway and Portugal respectively. It's the first time Solskjaer has
been included in a competitive squad since the 1-0 defeat to Bosnia
in September 2004. The Norwegians take on Hungary and Moldova,
while the Portuguese face a trip to Finland followed by a friendly
with Denmark.
Edwin van der Sar is set to win his 114th cap for Holland after
being named in Marco van Basten's squad to face Luxembourg and
Belarus.
Elsewhere, Ji-sung Park faces a trip to Seoul for Korea's
double-header against Iran and Chinese Taipei in the qualification
rounds for the 2007 Asian Nations Cup.
