Jasonist SG have u guys ever wonder if we display our precious car models on cabinet for a long period, the rubber tyres might get FLAT??? by then the tyres wont look so nice since it got flat izit? and have u ever wonder y the models oways being screwed on a plastic tray which the tyres are never being 'landed' on the surface, instead they will leave a little gap between the tyres and the surface... should be some reason y they wont let the tyres touch the tray rite??? according to wat i got from a car model collector, he wont let his models tyres touch the surface coz he fears the tyres might get flat one day since the display is for long term... which is a serious issue for us die cast collectors... so he recommend me to use sth to jack up the models to prevent the tyres from touching the surface... so wat i got is this - THE FLOATING DISPLAY, i did it on my every 1/18 car model... material i use to jack up the car models juz stick somewhere underneath the car after the model being jack up, no worries for the tyres got flatten (juz in case) hope to share this idea with u all... it depends on personal choice whether to believe o not lar, coz i cant afford to risk my every model le, especially when talking bout flatten rubber tyres...
Mckenz SG Yes, i did "floating" method to my 1:12 models. They are damn heavy and the tyres sure go flat in a faster rate than 1:18
piglet1140 SG Hmm... great ideas!! Could you share how you make these "jacks"? Will the "jacks" damage the under carriage of the models as its replacing the 4 tyres as supporting for a long time? I think i may need quite a number of them ah! Siao liao!
Jasonist SG as for me, i use erasers... cut them into cubes and wrapped them with matt black stickers (as u can see from the 1st pic)... then use cellotape to stick on those cubes and try to find a "good spot" on the undercarriage and stick there... note tat make sure u do not stick on the exhaust pipes or engine section coz may worry those parts do not support the weight of the model, especially on aa, kyosho cars... i can say tat the easiest car to jack up is the gallardo coz the undercarriage is plain and simple... oso do check out the balance of the car after u jack it up coz sometimes it might get high on the left side or low on the right side, then u have to re-adjust the jack up cubes again.. and of coz, when u stick onto the undercarriage for a period of time and if u try to take the jack up cubes off, there will be some cellotape marks on the undercarriage lor... so before u make the decision to jack up ur models, do take note in this oso ya...
imprezaWRXSTi22B SG tyres flatten liao can go pump air back ma. or a very good reason to change to the Falken 452s. haha sorry... i think u dun have to stick the cubes to the car model. can use a relatively big piece of styrofoam and place it under the car so that the model is resting on it, instead of on the tyres. or use blu tack instead of tape to stick. i dun have such problems cos i display my models in their boxes. my collection isnt big enuf to warrant display cabinets.....
piglet1140 SG Hmmm… looks like i need to find a way to prevent tyres getting flat! If not its gonna be hell lot of tyres to change! keke….
coolgeek84 SG Actually, instead of sticking things, what I have always been doing is use styrofoam slices. About the thickness of a bread loaf and the size of approximately 3cm * 7cm. In that way, no need to worry about sticking it somewhere where you do not want to, and no worries at all of load balancing. Just whack it in the center of any car and the styrofoam will conform to the shape of the car eventually and offer cushioning as well instead of hard materials.
piglet1140 SG Understand some styloform will stick to the surface after long period? Tink its so far the best choice liao loh??
mark-x link SG thanks for all the great ideas, but seriously, its will takes years of display to make the tyres flat. personally i do play around with cars as in the display, thus help in the tyres rotation
piglet1140 SG So do you take out the tyres and swap left to right or back to front for tyres rotation? any tyres balancing too?? keke….
Jasonist SG haha eh i thought real car needs different maintanance, model cars oso not lose to real cars eh...
