Will you vist the Casino?

I was just wondering what Christians think.... will you let your children visit the Casino?

Casino Issues until Dec 8
Columns By Andrew PK Yap

Based on criticisms from certain quarters, I would like to clarify that this site is heavily skewed towards Casino issues at the moment because the Sentosa IR is under consideration as we speak. The results should be announced on or around Dec 8th.

If you have any suggestions to make, please write in to your MPs by emails or go down personally to see them on an urgent basis.

Have compassion on the children as very powerful people try to tempt them to visit the Casino IR.

At the very least, let them know that you will object strongly if the Ministry of Education through their schools organise trips to the Casino attractions.

In fact, let them know that you object strongly for them to organise trips to Sentosa Island itself. Threaten them with your vote if need be.

To have a better understanding of the issues please read on this site the following if you had not done so.

depends…

breytonhartge SG

okay... i have had a quick skim through the blog...

what is the difference between having this casino resort open and all those P&O cruise trips to no where with each liner having a casino? Do not the adults bring kids there too?

talking about gambling being addictive and bringing in cigarettes...

so by extrapolation, the government should ban all possible situations which could lead to or give rise to addictive behaviour?

so ban TV, ban soft drinks, ban Mac D's...

also at the same time, ban the horse racing and ban 4D.

onceinabluemoon SG

I am more interested in what your religion teach about this issue...

breytonhartge SG

to what end and to what purpose, religion can teach and give you doctrines and guidelines... it is relationship with Yahweh through Yeshua that will produce the heart change that is needed to keep away from the casino.

It is not religion but a relationship with the LIVING GOD of the JEWS.

The basic problem with gambling is this : THE LOVE OF MONEY.

1 Timothy 6:10 (New King James Version)

10 For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil, for which some have strayed from the faith in their greediness, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.

Going to the casino is not inherently wrong in itself, but going there because of the love of money that is something that you have to let the Holy Spirit speak to you about.

According to Jewish law, gambling with another person is forbidden as the money gained is not clean money. But gambling in the casino is a different matter altogether, for the casino is making enough money, and they figure that a certain percentage of the people will walk out with a profit.

But then the problem here is that you are supporting a "wicked" establishment.

The Holy Scriptures surprisingly say little about gambling...but

Scripture speaks of at least three ways that one may obtain or earn money:

1. Working. Ephesians 4:28 and 1 Thessalonians 4:11-12
2. Exchange or barter. Genesis 47:17 and 1 Kings 5:10-11
3. Inheritences. Matthew 7:11 and Ephesians 4:28

Is gambling at the casino wrong in the eyes of Yahweh? The question is how are you convicted?

Asking what a religion teaches about gambling is a silly question... of course all religions which are designed to teach good, will say no it is not acceptable and not good. But those religions which are more lax will say it is ok. Even within a particular religion, asking this question is like asking, how long is a piece of string. Hence I return again to my initial statement:

It is relationship with Yahweh through Yeshua that will produce the heart change that is needed to keep away from the casino.

What is Yahweh's conviction speaking to you today about this particular subject matter Question

It all boils down to the individual and only you are responsible for your choices. Like I said in the other thread, stop trying to find a scapegoat for a person's lack of self control. If one is not disciplined, one never will be.

breytonhartge SG

so why are you so interested in what religion has to teach, please note, I do not have a religion. I have a personal relationship with Hashem.

onceinabluemoon SG

I used the word "religion" here whereas I said Buddhism and Christianity and Islam in the other forums because I do not know the basis of your claims.

So there is nothing in this world that is inherently good or bad and it all depends?

Even when the scientist with their research finds that the Casino is harmful http://www.newsintercom.org/index.php?itemid=489 you cannot be sure if your religion is against it? wow... in the Islam forum, they asked a poignant question:

"i wonder what religion do leaders of our country adopt.
i wonder which screwed up religion is that that actually asks its followers to promote gambling by setting up of a "sin house"(casino)"

http://www.sgforums.com/?action=thread_display&thread_id=222098

breytonhartge SG

don't you get it? whether the casino is harmful or not is not the question here. It is whether you want to stay away from it if you think it is harmful.

I have read your posts in EH, you seem to be going round and round...

I have already quoted verses to you as to what Yahweh thinks about the love of money... so you go figure. Far be it from me to stand here and condemn. I personally feel that this problem with the casino is not new, it has been around for a long time already.

I have gone to las vegas and have visited all the casino's for the various shows like CE has stated, so then I am in the wrong?? and that was when I was 15. So how?

The question to you is this, if you think the casino is so bad, then you stay away from it, other than that it is up to each individuals persuasion as to whether he wants to go to the casino or not.

The question here is does going to the casino make you an inherently bad or sinful person?

What are the ten commandments? And if by going to the casino you are breaking any one of the ten commandments and any one of the 613 by laws which define how to live the commandments, then you are sinning. SO for example if you go to the casino because you covet, then you have sinned. But if you go there to look see, and have no desire to covet money, then you have not sinned. In fact, there are much more things in everday life that will cause one to sin much more readily than the casino...

You take it from the perspective of "as long as I take care of myself" that is a very low standard to live by IMHO

I would think that life is rather meaningless it you live only for yourself.

I Googled that and below is the first page: (avoid stay away shun not associate evil places people quote bible)

that being the case, we should also stop posting in SGforums because it has a sponsor that has betting as it's business.

http://www.sgforums.com/?action=thread_display&thread_id=213934

I pity the poor kids that come into this forum and are tempted to place bets in sports events as well as Singapore pools and Toto.... I would assume that the opportunity to come into contact with this evil is higher than going to an integrated resort.

We should all avoid, stay away, shun, not associate with evil places and evil people..... Laughing boy! SGforums is so EVIL Twisted Evil

laurence82 SG

Otherwise we are all callous

Laughing

Chin Eng SG

yeah lor yeah lor..... Laughing

maybe we should petition to Jason to have a Saintly sponsor instead of an evil one like betinternet.com.... this one so EVIL that my company had blocked it. Lucky, scully I kena tempted.

onceinabluemoon SG

I disagree. In sgforums, we are allowed to speak out against casino gambling. We can point out to people that being customers of the IR is being a customer of an enterprise that is evil.

It is giving an evil enterprise your "custom" your support.

I do not like the fact that sgforums is sponsored by a betting organisation. sgforums itself is not a betting organisation... so I do not see any problem with my participation.

I have no problem eating at a coffee shop just because there are unsavory characters hanging out there, though I might avoid it, to avoid trouble.

I will definitely not patraonise a coffee shop that is setup explicitly to lure people to gamble at its premises, just like the IR. At the very least I will never go on the internet and say loudly that I have no problem supporting evil people and evil organisations as long as I do not participate in their evil activities.

The IR is set up to promote its casino. Even if I am not a gambler, medical research confirms that many people will be trapped; many people will have their lives destroyed by the casino.

To ignore that fact and simply think about oneself is just callous and a disgrace for a Christian to admit to. Christians should subject themselves to a higher standard or else they should not call themselves Christians.

Tan Ah Teck SG

If you don't gamble, don't start. Laughing

onceinabluemoon SG

Exclamation

and don't be lured by the glamour and fool by the "fun" of IR to start gambling.

Chin Eng SG

your wish lah.... Laughing no problem with me.

but obviously you are not getting much support for the folks here in SGforums (yeah, I have followed up all the threads in the other religious forum too), so inspite of your "well-meaning" intentions, you are going anywhere lah....

...maybe the next best thing is to write to the press, or see your MP, or something, cos' the rest of us are sure as hell not going to do anything about it..

...you maybe mankind's last hope. Laughing

Chin Eng SG

I think you forgot one line: I am Tan Ah Teck, I am an honest man.... Laughing

Chin Eng SG

... but seriously, Ah Teck, would you go and eat a buffet meal at the IR or watch a musical there?

how come I feel like Dolly?

sillyme SG

Please state your employer, the places your frequent, etc. Some of use maybe able to help you verify if you are indirectly supporting people who are addicted to vice. e.g. the coffeeshop's boss maybe gambling in an undergroud gambling den or the his staff maybe running a loan shark ring. Mr. Green

onceinabluemoon SG

don't be "silly"

Just avoid those you know for sure, like the IR. Just avoid those you yourself have no doubt is harmful, like casino gambling.
