Britain put their hopes for the future in fourteen year-old
schoolboy
Fourteen year-old Welsh Schoolboy Chaz Davies will compete in this
year's 125cc World Motorcycle Grand Prix Championships. Davies, who
celebrates his 15th birthday next month, will be pitted against the
best riders in the world in the 16-round world title chase that
starts at Suzuka, Japan in April.
Davies, who will ride an Aprilia machine for the Italian Matteoni
racing team, has been granted special permission by his school to
miss lessons to compete in motorcycle racing's premier World
Championship that visits four separate continents between April and
November.
'I've seen the World Championship riders on television and they are
very fast but they also ride very competitive bikes,' explained the
14-year-old, who last season gained valuable experience in both the
British and Spanish Championships. 'I've been to the Aprilia
factory in Italy to see the new bike, which was great. Most of the
tracks will be new to me, including the first one at Suzuka in
Japan but at least I know which way to go, because it's on my
Playstation.'
Davies will be accompanied to the Grands Prix by his father Pete
and mother Sam. He went with his Mum for a meeting at his school
last week. They gave the young sportsman great encouragement to
take on the best in the world.
'School have been really good and they were so pleased that I'm
going World Championship racing,' revealed the former British Mini
Moto Champion. 'I've bought a mini-disc and I hope to do some
school work on the long flights but there will be no time once I'm
at the races. I'm not really nervous and I'm so looking forward to
riding a competitive bike. My friends are really pleased for me and
they will all be coming to the British Grand Prix at Donington Park
in July.'
