Kevin Nolan held aloft a far less prestigious piece of
silverware yesterday but one which carried the greatest prize in
world football — £90million and promotion to the Premier
League.
The majority of West Ham fans who blew their bubbles here will
have been far too young to remember Moore and his team’s famous 2-0
win over 1860 Munich.
But this was more important as failure would simply have been
catastrophic for a club which threw everything at bouncing back
from the Championship at the first attempt.
Other teams in the division had found it hard to swallow that
West Ham paid £32million in wages this season — more than some
Premier League sides.
