The Kop misfit has spent the season on loan at the Serie A title
chasers, playing 21 games.
Aquilani needs to make four more appearances to trigger a
£5million move — which seemed a foregone conclusion.
Yet Italian sources revealed Milan are seriously reconsidering
whether to press ahead with the deal, with just five games to
go.
That leaves the 27-year-old midfielder facing the prospect of
heading back to Anfield — where he made just 14 starts following
his £20m signing from Roma in 2009.
And it would also see Liverpool having to cough up £70,000 a
week in wages for the Italian, who still has two years left on his
Reds’ deal.
Aquilani also spent the whole of last season on loan at
Juventus.
Meanwhile, Liverpool’s pre-season USA tour will see them play
MLS side Toronto on July 21, Roma on July 25 at the home of the
Boston Red Sox and Spurs in Baltimore on July 28.
