Arsenal keeper Wojciech Szczesny has added to the
turmoil at Arsenal by claiming HE should captain the
team.
The experienced Robin van Persie took over the armband after
Cesc Fabregas quit for Barcelona in the summer.
But Arsenal have lost four times in seven games and boss Arsene
Wenger has already conceded they are out of the title race.
Now Sczczesny, 21, has added fresh controversy to the Gunners’
troubled season by insisting he is the man players listen to.
He said: “I feel that when I say something, everyone listens to
me. More so on the field than in the dressing room, but that’s more
important, I think.
“I want to be captain of the team. I feel I am able to take on
that responsibility.”
Van Persie has cast doubts over his Arsenal future by placing
talks over a new contract on hold.
The Dutchman is into the last two years of his current deal and,
should he not sign an extension by the end of this season, will be
in an identical situation to that of Samir Nasri before he went to
Manchester City.
