Vermaelan should be a Tottenham
player, it has been revealed.
De Perse says when Ajax coach Martin Jol was in charge of
Tottenham when he was offered
the Belgium international on the cheap.
However, after discussions with his coaching staff, Jol decided
that at 180cm, Vermaelen wasn't tall enough to succeed as a
centre-half in England.
Vermaelen is now with Arsenal
and was regarded by many Premiership managers as the best signing
of last season.
