Group A
Prediction: Both games (Uruguay v Mexico and France v South
Afria) to end in draws, Uruguay progress as surprise group
winners, Mexico runners up
Group B
Prediction: Argentina to beat greece, s.korea force nigeria
to a draw. ARG group winner, SKorea runners up
Group C
England to defeat Slovenia, USA to beat Algeria (hell, anyone
can beat Algeria right?). Both teams overtake poor Slovenia to go
through. US top with superior goal difference.
Group D
Group D teams have the luxury to 'pick' their round of 16 group
C opponents having kick off 4 1/2 hrs later. Germany, threading on
thin ice having lost their 2nd group game, will do their best to
defeat Ghana. Serbia and Aussies fight out an entertaining draw.
Serbia and Ghana to finish level on pts. Depending on whether
head-to-head result or goal difference comes first, one of them
will progress as runners up behind the germans. Germany v England
round of 16
Group F
Strangely, group E-F is the only one that does not go with
ascending alphabetical order in terms of timing of kick offs. Group
F kicks off their final grp games ahead of grp E. The italians
scrap to a 1-goal victory over slovakia while Paraguay crash new
zealand to finish top. ITA runners up.
Group E
Denmark defeats japan, holland fields a 2nd team and defeats
cameroon. Holland 1st, danes 2nd, japanese heartbreak. Italy v
Holland rd of 16
Group G
At the time of writing, Portugal is leading the north koreans by
3-0, with more than 30minutes remaining. I predict that the
portugese will score at least 1 more to overtake the brazilians at
the top of the grp ahead of the final game. Dunga's samba boys,
feeling the pressure of missing out on top spot, will beat the
portugese by one goal to finish top. POR 2nd irregardless of the
outcome of the other game. POR-NKOR 4-0 already by the time i
finished typing this , LOL. Nice goal Tiago.
Group H
At time of writing, 2nd round of grp games have not kicked off.
I dare not make predictions after seeing european champions spain
crash to minnows Switzerland. I hope Spain do a portugal
tonite and crush the hondurans. Chile might edge out the
swiss, going with the trend of superb results from south
american teams in this year's competition.
So far my prediction for group A (final standings) and B (final
standings plus results of final matches) are deadly
accurate!
