Arsenal could lose William Gallas on a free transfer this summer
because of Arsene Wenger's strict policy of offering only one-year
contract extensions to players over the age of 30.
Central defender Gallas, 32, will be a free agent this summer
when his contract expires but is keen to remain at the Emirates
Stadium and wants a two-year deal to stay.
But Wenger, who contemplated bending his usual rules on contract
extensions to accomodate Gallas, has decided that an additional 12
months is the maximum he will offer the former Chelsea man.
Negotiations: William Gallas (left) wants a
two-year deal to stay at Arsenal
Arsenal chairman Peter Hill-Wood revealed: 'Arsene has had a
policy with players who are aged over 30 to offer them one-year
extensions.
'He has not asked us to make an exception for Gallas. If he did
I am sure the board would agree to it.
'It is not out of the question, but it is certainly not on the
table at the moment.'
