Raúl: Had enough of the Real Madrid bench
The Madrid-based newspaper, that has close ties with Real,
claims Raul is eager to play in America and will be paid the same
wage he receives at the Santiago Bernabeu.
The 32-year-old, who is Real's all-time top scorer, has been at
Los Blancos since he was 17 and enjoyed a trophy-laden
career. He has slipped down the pecking order of late as club
president Florentino Perez builds another team of
galacticos.
Raul recently admitted he was considering his future at Real.
"For 15 years I have won practically everything, and in the last
three months I have played less," he said. "It's not an ideal
situation for any player."
Raul's agent Gines Carvajal has confirmed that a number of clubs
have shown an interest in the player, but added that his client
could remain at Real.
Carvajal said: "Some clubs have asked about Raul, but that is a
question that depends exclusively on the player and he is very
happy in Madrid."
The New York Red Bulls are reportedly trying to build a team of
superstars and have been linked with Barcelona striker Thierry
Henry and a bid to tempt AC Milan legend Paolo Maldini out of
retirement.
David Beckham left Real Madrid to join MLS side Los Angeles
Galaxy in 2007 and raised the global profile of the U.S.
league.
