World cup yes/no is a BIG wayang

knn where got logic , China paid same price like Singapore ?

Rock^Star SG

This whole wayang kulit is just to tell Singaporeans that it doesn't come cheap having to pay FIFA for the broadcast rights. I watched the last WC 2006 entirely on Indonesian channels, all matches were broadcast. Even RTM 1 played most of the matches. Same goes for Vietnam and Thailand.

the world cup broadcast will still go ahead in Singapore. Mark my words :)

Poignant SG

mediacorp launched a bid to broadcast 4 matches, the semi-finals, final, and 3rd&4th placing match

Poolman SG

ya la , their typical antics .

They want to do it like Pay-Per-View basis .

Looked like they also scared got backfired .

I am so sure with those internet streaming around the internet , for most of us , if too much involve , we might switch to alternatives .

Once we switch to alternative , they are dead .

Medicated Oil SG

I guess the football fans are being blackmailed.

All the fiasco have shown the incompetence in the management here to secure the telecast right.

So much for penny wise and pound foolish.

I will not be paying a single cent for the World Cup matches cos they trying to show that they have "try" their best to secure the telecast at the "bargain" price for the matches.

Rooney9 SG

how much Astro in Malaysia paid for the world cup rights? what about Indonesia as well, as in Australia?

maybe can benchmark how much they pay for the rights.

Poolman SG

Aiya , still will have people subscribe to it .

Places like pubs , wine bars , clubs , restaurants , coffee shops .....

People like us , pls don't subscribe for the sake of subcribing , go nearby coffee shops also can see .

Make them burn a big hole inside their pocket .

It is the people who make it possible for Singtel to bid successfully for the EPL rights for $400m .

Pls dun make it possible for them this time .

Let them worry about it .

charlize SG

Don't watch football won't die one lah.

Little or no revenue coming in to the telco - see what happens.

Poolman SG

Me no worries ... me no hardup for World Cup .

I can even afford to miss France vs Italy , and Brazil vs France's Final .

If i want , Indonesia channel sometimes got , RTM 1 also will have .

Me just buy a Power Antenna can liao .

Poolman SG

Don't watch football won't die one lah.

Little or no revenue coming in to the telco - see what happens.

Little or no revenue is still ok , invest $40m and lose money , i'll be laughing .

Rooney9 SG

just head to batam or JB/KL for a 1-2 days well deserved holidays lar. can shop, eat and watch football, why not.

charlize SG

Little or no revenue is still ok , invest $40m and lose money , i'll be laughing .

Now the telcos will think twice next time in bidding up prices like what they did for the EPL.

FIFA will eat them back.

charlize SG

Then again, it will be a big embarassment for the government.

You want to promote tourism and foreigners to come live in singapore and the country can't even show the world cup live on TV?

Ay Carumba!

Poolman SG

Hmm ... a total different thing la .

Tourist come Singapore not for World Cup . If want World Cup , pls go South Africa .

dragg SG

the world cup matches are all at around midnight right?

iceFatboy SG

the world cup matches are all at around midnight right?

not sure, but given the african cup was screened quite late, may be a reflection of the WC timing??

also, on the WC thingy, given it may impact the IR as shared by one of my friend, it will go ahead despite the wayang show now.. U think so??

dragg SG

i think thats the whole purpose - to charge higher.

SGporkz SG

comfrim will affect abit of business...

tourist come sg during that period of time also hope to watch WC here.

if sg no WC...much % will think twice before coming sg.

sg will show wc 1 la..

Franceso Totti SG

doesnt make sense. if FIFA dun deal with the telcos in Spore, then they dun earn anything right, zero cents, nothing. if they deal, they earn something, money to their coffers. so you think they will deal with SINGTEL and STARHUB or not in the end? accept 20-25 million lar, better than having nothing at all right.

stellazio SG

yes...this time we must make a united stand and make them lose money..

Poignant SG

yes...this time we must make a united stand and make them lose money..

we should done this to singtel, when they got the epl rights.
