EPL ~ Liverpool 2 - 0 Tottenham

zocoss SG

Liverpool should seriously consider cashing in on Gerrard... Cos they somehow look better without him... This season and last, they played many big matches without him and they somehow do better than with him...

Maybe Lucas may become the next Fabregas like when Vieira left Arsenal and everyone was expecting doom and gloom... I know lah its a long shot but hey... as they say in football, the ball is round mah... lol. And Pool's result so far without him isn't bad by any means...

I don't think the owners have enough cash to sack him!

tats one main reason..

wad i truely believe is LFC should continue to stick to Rafa..

and lets say, if they really sack him..

in comes another new gaffer..

tat new fellow will not last long too, reason is because with insufficient "war-chest"..

he will also not much alter this team..

ended up, the same old prob is still there..

therefore, nobody knows this current squad of players better den Rafa..

unless there's a big change in the ownership tat can provide lotsa $..

den maybe getting an even top-notch gaffer will really change LFC inside out..

lastly, do rmb his days @ Valencia too..

he worked frm ground zero to bring them to a greater height..

Rafa Benitez and Harry Redknapp

Touch and go: Rivals managers Rafa Benitez (right) and Harry Redknapp on the sidelines

Rafa Benitez saluted his Liverpool side's resilience after they reignited their Champions League hopes with a Dirk Kuyt double against Tottenham.

The Anfield manager praised his striker after his twice-taken injury-time penalty sealed a vital win and said: 'He showed great composure but you would always expect that from him. He always works incredibly hard but he also has lots of experience and a great record for scoring goals here and in Holland.

'Perhaps we have sent out a message with this win and performance. It was full of character and effort, and everyone else will now know Liverpool are a good team. I think the rest now realise we are in the race for a top-four place.

'I was pleased with the players' attitude and happy we proved our squad is not as bad as some people have been saying. It was vital we scored first, especially as Tottenham were playing well in the first half. We had some space when they started pushing forward in the second half. In the end Kuyt could have scored four.'

Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp sensed it might not be Tottenham's when he had to delay sending on substitute Sebastian Bassong.

Deadely Dirk: Kuyt sends keeper the wrong way to wrap up the points

'He'd forgotten to put his shorts on,' explained a bemused Redknapp, 'It's a new one on me and you do wonder, don't you? I don't know whether someone has to do his bootlaces up as well.'

Redknapp was unhappy at an offside ruling against Jermain Defoe after he appeared to have equalised early in the second half and said: 'As for the offside goal, I'm going to have to spend a couple of hours reading the rule book when I get home, because I just don’t understand it.

‘This was a missed opportunity. When you come here and there is no Steven Gerrard or Fernando Torres you think you’re in with a chance but we didn’t respond.’

i think city are liverpool's main challenger for 4th place.

villa and spurs are not up to it.

i still cant believe there are people still bashing rafa in this forum no matter whether he wins or lose.

i guess its just the innate mentality of some people.

at the start of the match there are liverpool supporters waving the huge rafa flag showing the support for him. i dun understand how supporters here cant feel the same way.

u do realise that rafa brought liverpool to 2 CL finals, winning one. and went the closest to the epl title last season in 19 years.

i believe u cant judge rafa just based on this season's RESULTS.

and for a self-proclaimed pool fan to say he is disappointed kuyt's name was on the scoresheet and would rather spurs score 2 instead of liverpool.. i really dunno what to say.

dragg SG

btw should defoe's goal have been allowed?

the rule is really really confusing.

ok, lets not make this a big fuss

what i meant was kuyt should not be a solo striker; he can have Maxi to share the goalscoring burden. wouldn't this be better and we could add another goal or 2?

and meanwhile, i still hope rafa will push the team up with the pressure of being sacked (of course not getting sacked).

There is a lot of work for Liverpool to do.

Liverpool has finally turned the corner!

Wait...I have heard that for the past 20 years!!!

You know why? Because Rafa is working for one of the biggest team in football with rich history and high expectation (understandable after 20 yrs without EPL trophy, and the bragging right gonna be snatched away from ManU also).

He will be a hero if he work as a manager at mid to bottom teams.

ASKL! SG

i now support rafa.
for real.

like what sg_forum said, rafa has high expectation to work with, because liverpool is a top 4 club, he is expected to win games.

if rafa took charge of like, leciester for example. he will not be expected to do big things.

further like sg_forum had said again, liverpool has not won the trophy for very long, and all the more pressure is heaped on rafa's shoulder. we should support him rather than going against him.

like some forumers do here, i'd emphasize some.

Medicated Oil SG

My stand against Ah Ben will not change just because he won a match.

He achieved greatness with Ah Hou's squad.

He is too ultra-defensive and rely too much on uncreative players like Kuyt to play.

Without Torres and Stevie, he cannot make it to top four.

Liverpool cannot become 1st with him around.

sg_forum SG

no doubt rafa is a good manager but i think he has tried his best for liverpool…im not sure we can ever win a title under him though…

Beat Spurs and people starting to say Liverpool's season has finally began/turned the corner blah blah blah?

I thought I heard the same thing when Liverpool beat MU in October last year?

but there r also some who say beating manu is just 3 points, wont make a huge difference except in terms of confidence, morale bla bla bla.

anyway if u notice liverpool always play better, or rather higher chance of winning when kuyt was playing as a striker. be it lone or partner torres.

he is a good distraction to draw defenders away from torres. anyway he was a striker at feyenoord and in his earlier liverpool days. dont know why the hell he suddenly become a right winger when babel n benayoun is around. now even got maxi! mayb he is too hardworking for his own good

amusing statement.
only rafa says that, who else did say that?

Liverpool has finally turned the corner!

Wait...I have heard that for the past 20 years!!!

except for this guy, who was full of sacarsm.

Medicated Oil SG

Kuyt is hardworker but not a creator.

He was slotted to right wing as Ah Ben favoured the lone striker and Kuyt can cover for defence on the right.

So, he should leave for his own good.

Even if Torres is injured, he is rarely used as a striker as Ah Ben is defensive minded.

dragg SG

kyut is one of the very few good players at liverpool.

Ashianamarley SG

Benitez's job is hanging by a thread after falling out of the title race and suffering early exits from both the Champions League and FA Cup.
