Snag: Joe Cole (left)
Tottenham
boss Harry Redknapp has been put on red alert after Joe
Cole's future at Chelsea was
thrown into doubt.
The England midfielder is out of contract at the end of the
season - and talks over fresh terms have stalled.
Cole, who currently earns £80,000-per-week, wants a
£120,000-per-week and discussions over the extension are in
deadlock due to the 28-year-old's wage demands.
As it stands, Cole can sign a pre-contract agreement
with a foreign club today and can walk away from Stamford Bridge
for nothing at the end of the season.
The news will alert Redknapp who is a massive fan of the
midfielder he helped nurture during their time at West
Ham.
The Spurs boss has been continually linked with a move for the
ex-Hammer and the prospect of taking him on a free would be of
massive interest to Redknapp.
Cole spent nine months on the treatment table with a knee injury
and since his return has made just 12 starts under Carlo
Ancelotti.
Chelsea remain confident they will strike a deal to keep Cole at
Stamford Bridge - but they will have to improve upon their most
recent offer of £100,000-per-week.
Cole is hoping Chelsea will back down as they did with with
Frank Lampard's long-running transfer wrangle - but new chief
executive Ron Gourlay is under pressure to reduce the wage
bill.
