Liverpool lost because of several reasons. Firstly the manager.
Benitez thinks he very smart coming out to say we can beat anyone,
and the match after he said this, he was beaten. Benitez though he
won the CL, is not a great manager. Too much rotation and
reliance on a handful of players.
Secondly, over reliance on Gerrard, Torres and Kuyt. Benitez
only know how to rely on the 3 of them. If any 2 of them injured
then i think liverpool is gone. Gerrard is getting old as well. A
football team plays football as a team, not just 3 superstars
unless you are lionel messi, cristiano ronaldo or kaka, but torres,
gerrard and kuyt are just not them.
Thirdly, carragher is getting old. His defense is not as good as
what he is used to be. Skrtel is just an average player. They have
a gem in daniel agger, but benitez does not play him.
Fourthly, failure to replace alonso. Alonso is the brightest
player, the best player last season for pool. Way ahead of torres
and gerrard. Yet, benitez sold him and betrayed him (by wanting to
buy barry). Benitez then went on to buy that roma guy and until now
is still injured. Poor replacement in my opinion. Alonso's loss is
massive.
Fifthly, Mascherano's head has been turned by the attention of
barcelona. He wanted to leave pool for barca, but benitez would
hear none of it. Mascherano's tigerish approach of his game is gone
and is now frequently warming the bench.
Sixthly, benitez insistence on playing the Lucas guy. That guy
is simply 1st division material. He is the weakest link in the
liverpool lineup. If benitez insist on playing him, then its really
bad.
Lastly, the fans. Sometimes liverpool fans are too big headed
thinking that they are the best team in the world and thus giving
the team too much pressure. Pressure on the team is good, but too
much may in fact be bad for the team.
