AL OF A MOVE ... Aquilani could replace Alonso
The Reds have agreed a deal in principle for the
Italian, 25, who has won 11 full caps and turned down Arsenal and
Chelsea when he was 16.
Liverpool are demanding £30m for Alonso plus a series
of add-ons worth up to £5m more - yet Real are adamant they will
not go that high.
Anfield managing director Christian Purslow met Real
official Jose Angel Sanchez in Barcelona before Sunday's friendly
against Espanyol.
Purslow admitted: "There has been no agreement. Talks
have been very friendly but we need to continue talking."
Alonso, 27, is finally expected to move to Spain by the
end of the week.
But big-spending Real have hinted they will walk away
if the price does not come down, with Standard Liege star Steven
Defour the next target on their shopping list.
