LAST GAME? ... Xabi Alonso on the subs bench
for Liverpool against Espanyol last night
The Kop midfielder, a £28million target for Real
Madrid, made what looked like a cameo farewell appearance in their
friendly defeat in Spain.
But boss Benitez said: "He is our player and we want
him to stay."
Luis Garcia - a namesake of the former Anfield player -
put Espanyol ahead before ex-Chelsea reserve Ben Sahar scored a
second-half double to give the hosts an impressive win.
Liverpool failed to threaten despite having Steven
Gerrard, Fernando Torres, Jamie Carragher and Javier Mascherano in
their starting line-up.
