WANTAWAY ... Sebastien
Bassong
The Frenchman has made it clear he has no interest in
staying at St James' Park following Toon's relegation from the
Premier League last season.
But despite attracting interest from several European
clubs, Bassong admits his preference is to continue his career in
England.
When asked if the Gunners had made an inquiry about
him, he said: "I confirm that. There has been an approach.
"But for the moment, there is nothing concrete.
"Foreign teams have also made inquiries but as my
priority is to stay in England, I haven't followed them
through.
"Clearly it would be better if everything went quicker
but I am not worried."
Bassong, 23, who only joined Newcastle from Metz last
summer, claims a transfer away from the Magpies could be
problematic due to the uncertainty around the future ownership of
the club.
He added: "Some Premier League clubs are interested in
me but not everything is simple given that Newcastle are in the
process of being bought out and the name of the future manager is
still not known."
