Liverpool are poised to announce that captain Steven
Gerrard has signed a new four-year contract, which will keep the
29-year-old at Anfield for the rest of his career.
The Reds' skipper put the finishing touches to a new four-year
contract after his return to pre-season training on Wednesday.
The deal is worth a reported £140,000 a week and will commit
Gerrard to his hometown club until he is 33.
Liverpool announced they had reached a deal in principal back in
April, but an official announcement is expected on Thursday.
The 29-year-old delayed signing the contract in the midst of
Liverpool's title challenge before the player then went straight to
international duty with England.
But after the final details were completed Gerrard has now
sealed his future. He came close to signing for Chelsea in the
summer 2005 but now looks certain to remain a one-club man.
Gerrard still had two years left on his existing deal, and has
previously said this contract will be his last.
