Everton boss David Moyes is planning a bid for Manchester United veteran Paul Scholes.

The Daily Star Sunday says Moyes wants to add the former England midfielder to three former Old Trafford recruits – Tim Howard, Phil Neville and Louis Saha.

Scholes, 34, is no longer a regular choice at United and Moyes hopes Sir Alex Ferguson will consider releasing him.

He is a one-club man but admits his career is drawing to a close and he has also been linked with Stoke and Bolton this summer.

Everton's interest in Paul Scholes could open the door for Manchester United to push for a deal for Jack Rodwell.

The Daily Star Sunday says Everton boss David Moyes wants Scholes, but there is the worry that Sir Alex Ferguson will suggest a deal which takes Goodison midfielder Rodwell to Old Trafford.

England Under-21 international Rodwell, who could eventually develop into a central defender, is one of the most coveted young players in the country.
