Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney has had his Champions League preparations rocked.

The Mirror says Rooney's Nike boots were stolen hours before the big game.

Last night there was a desperate scramble to find a replacement pair.

Nike, who sponsor Rooney, had flown over a custom-made pair of T90 laser boots for him but they were stolen on his way to his hotel.

Rooney had to wear an old pair in training.

A source said: "No one can believe it."

Police are investigating the reported stabbing of a Manchester United fan in Rome ahead of the Champions League final on Wednesday.

The supporter was attacked near his hotel in the Italian capital by up to four suspects in the early hours of this morning, according to Sky Sports News.

It was further reported the man received stab wounds to the left leg and was later discharged from hospital.

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police in Rome said: "I can confirm that we have received reports of a stabbing in Rome.

"We have no details yet of the incident but we are making full inquiries."
