Contender: Stewart Downing could solve Liverpool's lack of width problem

Stewart Downing has emerged as the preferred choice to solve Rafa Benitez’s need for more width and will be the subject of a £12m bid by Liverpool at the end of the season.

Tottenham’s Aaron Lennon was also in the frame, but Benitez has switched focus to the left flank and Middlesbrough winger Downing, after being impressed by Dirk Kuyt’s impact on the right this season.

Benitez said: ‘Someone called him Mr Duracell, and that is a good description for him, because he is like the bunny in the advert. He is always on the go, always running.’

Keane was not bought by Rafa leh...Rafa wanted to buy Barry but Rick Parry bought Keane instead. There was power struggle going on there. Parry was trying to show who is in charge but too bad the victim was Keane.

Lennon on the right leh, Downing on the left...I dont think Rafa is looking for right player liao cos Kuyt is quite effective lately...

limpper SG

Kuyt? i dont really like him

i would prefer to sell him to generate funds.

aiya, rafa pattern where got play players in their fav position one

& right legged also can play on left de mah

to me lar, if really want buy wing, i would prefer lennon than downing

Kuyt's contribution not bad lah this season, been quite outstanding. Aaron Lennon is a good player with speed but sometimes can off one...his off day is more than his on. hehehe

overall, agree that lennon is still better than downing.

it's hard for me to take fancy on kuyt.

actually hor, why quaresma din come into rafa's mind? before he went inter, i wished he was at liverpool.

quite cheap mah him, can buy and try try.

Dunno lah Rafa, sometimes I think he is too stubborn...quaresma had a few good games for chelsea early in the season but dunno now on the bench liao. :D:D

limpper SG

that's why i say arh, rafa buy what he likes, not what he needs

quaresma nowadays dont even make it on bench, playing chelsea reserves -.-

poor thing arh he
