CRASH LANDING ... Didier Drogba takes a tumble
against Arsenal.
Fabregas made gestures at ref Phil Dowd when Drogba went to
ground in the first half. But the Blues hitman then set up the
first goal with a brilliant free-kick.
Wenger said: “We live in a league now where the divers are
rewarded. It is not right. I do not want to go into any individual
assessments. "I don’t think the free-kick should have been given,
but that doesn’t mean we shouldn’t win the header after
that.”
Drogba was caught on camera in a foul-mouthed rant when Chelsea
were dumped out of the Champions League by Barcelona last
Wednesday.
This time his boots did the talking with a free-kick headed in
by Alex. Nicolas Anelka scored the next before an own goal by Kolo
Toure and a strike by Florent Malouda completed the rout. Nicklas
Bendtner replied for Arsenal.
Wenger’s men have conceded seven goals in their last two games.
He said: “Going forward we had a very interesting game and created
plenty of chances. "That was never a 4-1 game. We should have been
2-0 up before they scored.
"We made a mistake and were one down, but we missed seven or
eight clearcut chances and every mistake we made was punished by a
team of quality. “Three months ago, everybody said we’d finish
10th. They’d have been happy to have finished fourth. “But in the
games that mattered we couldn’t win. That’s what we have to
analyse.”
Chelsea boss Guus Hiddink hopes Drogba’s apology will get him
off the hook with UEFA for his astonishing outburst in which he
described the referee as a f*****g disgrace.
Hiddink said: “If the people at UEFA are not bureaucratic
people, they’ll take into account that he apologised.”<!--
