Liverpool goalkeeper Charles Itandje insists his
negative behaviour during the Hillsborough service has been blown
out of proportion.
The former France Under-21 international was seen swaying and
appeared to smirk during the 20th anniversary ceremony last
week.
He has since been suspended by the club as they investigate his
conduct, but Itandje feels the incident was not representative of
his general conduct during the event.
"It is a 30-second clip about which people are going overboard,”
he told Aujourd’hui Sport.
“You need to see an hour of the video if you want to judge my
behaviour, but you know the papers over there (in England). They
make a big deal of things."
Itandje was already expected to leave the club in the summer and
he suggested he may have been treated less harshly if he were a
first-team player.
"It does not change a great deal, as I am already on the
transfer list," he said.
"I should be leaving this summer. I am not used in the team.
"I don't want to seem paranoid, but I hope this is not linked
with my situation at the club."
