Chief executive Garry Cook has asked super-agent Pini Zahavi to
do a deal to bring the Barcelona striker to Eastlands in time for
next season.
The pair have been in contact this week and the City supremo
needs a mega-deal to improve his standing in the eyes of the club’s
Arab owners.
The Abu Dhabi group, who bought City last August, were
unimpressed at not landing Brazil superstar Kaka despite bidding
over £100million.
Henry, 31, has been in brilliant from for Barca after injury
disrupted his first season at the Nou Camp. And he is thought to be
keen on returning to England.
City want a massive name in their squad to attract other top
players as they attempt to become a world superpower. And they know
they can capture Henry without paying anything like the
astronomical fee talked about for Kaka.
The move will become increasingly likely if Barca fulfil the
Frenchman’s lifelong ambition of winning the Champions League. The
Spanish club have other players who would interest City. Yaya Toure
has been spoken about and they also fancy striker Samuel
Eto’o.
The Eastlands club are set to bring in as many as six top names
this summer.
