A spokesman for a Kuwaiti investment consortium says
talks are ‘going really badly’ over a potential purchase
of Liverpool.
The Anfield club is on the market for £500 million as owners Tom
Hicks and George Gillett look for a buyer and this is an inflated
price tag according to the Middle Eastern consortium.
Abdulla Al-Sager, one of the possible investors in the
consortium headed by Kuwait’s Al-Kharafi family, told Bloomberg:
“Things are going really badly, because they are asking too
much.
“I don’t think anything will happen unless we get a better
price.”
The next move will probably see the Kuwaiti consortium play a
waiting game until July when Hicks and Gillett have to see if they
can refinance the club’s £300m debts if they cannot, then the duo
may be forced into lowering the asking price.
Liverpool have also held talks about a sale to another
investment group in the Middle East and one in the United
States.
Hicks is believed to want an investment partner to buy Gillett’s
stake and allow him to remain in control at Anfield.
