Bacary Sagna has lamented his team’s injury crisis and
slammed the press for constantly attacking Arsenal.
The talented right back is fed up with the way his side has
been treated in the English media since his move to Emirates
Stadium.
The Frenchman has slammed the tabloids for going wild after
William Gallas’ controversial interview, and said they are trying
to ‘create a mess’.
Sagna also understands The Gunners have to cope with Cesc
Fabregas’ long absence, as well as Theo Walcott’s shoulder damage
and Tomas Rosicky’s career-threatening injury.
Sagna told L’Equipe: “You know, Arsenal have always been
attacked. When I joined the club the press started to say the
team’s too young and that we’d never bounce back from Thierry
Henry’s departure.
“But at the end of the day, we made people shut up by playing
out a good season. This year it’s William’s turn (to be
attacked). The tabloids have tried to create a mess.
“You’re not happy to see that in the papers, but as far as I’m
concerned, it doesn’t affect me. We are just trying to achieve the
best season possible, but we have to cope with blows with Walcott,
Rosicky and now Fabregas’ injury. We didn’t need that.”
The defender has refused to rule Arsenal out of the title
race.
When asked if winning the title remains possible for The
Gunners, he said: “Of course, but it remains very tight. Besides,
if you watch closely you’ll notice that it’s becoming complicated
for everybody.
“Winning is even becoming hard for the leaders. It proves that
the gap between the big four teams and the other ones has
considerably decreased. For the moment, it remains open.
“Consistency will be the key to winning the title. It’s up to us
to stop dropping points like we have done lately.”
