Arsene Wenger would not be drawn to comment on reported
interest in Andrei Arshavin, but did suggest Arsenal could raid the
market to compensate for the loss of Cesc Fabregas.
Arsenal were dealt a crushing blow on Tuesday with confirmation
captain Fabregas will likely be sidelined for four months with a
knee injury.
Fabregas’ absence leaves Wenger with a huge void to fill, as he
looks to claim a place in the top four let alone sustain a title
challenge.
Arshavin has been strongly linked in recent days and the Russian
schemer is desperate to secure a move away from Zenit St
Petersburg.
Wenger would not be drawn to comment on the Russian, but
suggested there could be arrivals in January.
Responding to a direct question about Arshavin, Wenger said: “At
the moment nobody is going out and nobody is coming in.”
Wenger did concede that he could be persuaded to open his
chequebook.
He said: “More likely yes, but we have internal solutions. We
are not desperate because of that (Fabregas’ injury).
”In a way it is more important to focus on the games before
January.”
