Lazio have confirmed a deal with Digital Brothers, Konami
Digital Enertainment GmbH and Pro Evolution Soccer 2009 to become
the first club to be sponsored by the football game. The club
announced the agreement on Monday afternoon on their official
website and a statement reads:
"Thanks the partnership with Lazio, PES 2009 breaks a new record as
it's the first video game to become the main sponsor of a team for
one game in the Serie A Championship, passing from the virtual to
the real football pitch."
Lazio will wear a special shirt for the game against Inter this
Saturday. The Biancocelesti's jerseys do not have a main sponsor
this season [Pictured] but PES 2009 will be the first.
The Italian club as well as the games makers will hold a special
press conference on the eve of the Inter match to explain the new
deal.
It's only for one match though. Any Lazio and Pro Evolution Soccer
fans will be eager to get their hands on the new jerseys but it is
not yet known as to whether replicas will be produced for the fans
from shirt makers Puma.
Since it's launch in October, 675,000 copies of the game have been
sold in Italy alone.
The Aquilotti thus make history for becoming the first club to be
sponsored by the famous video game.
