marriage with another religion

Im a Chinese Buddhist, my gf is Chinese Christian. If i were to marry her will i be ask by my gf to convert to Christian? Or can i.choose to remain my religion? Is there a choice or under bopian act? Im kinda worry abt my future, and my life?

To my knowledge, for Chinese couples regardless whether you are a Buddhist or a Christian, there is no big problem. Most of them go for Civil Marriage. Then they have a reception in Church ground/Hotel/Restaurant and they also have the Chinese Tea serving ceremony when they get married. There is no compulsion in religion. If there is, then something is wrong somewhere along the ancient history of religion. Yeah, I know, you don't have to ask me lols.. For me personally, Religion is your Heart. Period.

You really should talk to her about these type of things:) I'm sure she wouldnt mind. She's your gf after all. But i feel that if you guys really want to be together, differences like these shouldnt be a problem. if you want to stay a Bhuddist and she wants to stay a christian, i guess you guys would accept each other for your differences. Here's a slightly outrageous thought that might be worth considering: what is the cost of pretending to be Christian for the rest of your life?

To my knowledge, Christianity (in Singapore especially) has become this low commitment thing. The most you would get is probably having to go to church on a Sunday morning. In the more annoying cases, you will have to go to cell group etc in the middle of the week.

But hey, other than that your lifestyle probably wouldn't change.

If you love her enough, it might be worth a try ;)

Well the best advice is to really ask your gf about it.

Have been mingling with lots of Christians lately (and also attended their bible studies), and I can tell you that their number 1 rule with regards to marriage is cannot marry non-Christians.

Yes, they can date non-Christians, but under the eyes of their god, a true marriage is when they are both Christians. But if your gf is the super chinchai kind, always skip church and not very involved in her religion, then you probably have chance of marrying her.

I think one reason they have to marry Christians is because they believe that when you both die, Christians will go to heaven to spend the eternity with god, while non-Christians will be sent to hell to be separated from god forever. So if you are not christian, you and your girlfriend will be separated forever.

Also, it's not a good idea to pretend you believe in christianity just to marry her. Because if you do, 1) your relationship wil be built on a lie, 2) you will be miserable attending church/bible study/cellgroup or whatever thing weekly.

2 friends of mine have parents of separate religions one of whom also has a Buddhist father and a Christian mother. It shouldn't be a problem but she probably will try to convert you. When/if she does, just tell her you want to stay a Buddhist.
