Real Madrid’s miserable week shows no signs of ending,
as it has been confirmed that striker Ruud van Nistelrooy is set to
miss the remainder of the season through injury.
The Dutch striker underwent an exploratory arthroscopic
operation in the United States and knee specialist Dr Richard
Steadman has decided the forward will go under the knife.
This operation means Los Merengues’ goal-machine will not play
again this term, which is a huge blow for the Primera Liga
champions.
Real chairman Ramon Calderon and sporting director Predrag
Mijatovic are likely to devote their time to pinpointing a
replacement for their main source of goals.
“After the arthroscopy on Ruud van Nistelrooy, a partial rupture
of (...) his anterior knee ligament operated on in 2000 and a
lesion of the cartilage have been found,” read a club
statement.
“The club’s medical team and Dr Steadman, with the player’s
approval, have decided that surgery is required.
“The estimate length of his unavailability is expected to last
between six and nine months depending on his recovery.”
