Keano fears some of his cock-a-hoop Black Cats may take
their eye off the ball after the historic win over Newcastle last
weekend. The Mackems chief reckons it took him ‘50 seconds’ to get
over winning massive games as a player. And he says anyone still
living off their derby-day delight can forget about playing against
Stoke.
He explained: “I’ve seen it with other teams. They’re
just so happy for winning a big derby match they take their eye off
the ball for the next few weeks and lose games.
“I will know if that has happened to any of our players
by the way they walk out to training. “If they walk out on their
heels, that’s not good. I think you should jog out to training, so
I’ll be looking out of my window. “Players coming out with
tracksuit bottoms on, that’s a sign too of how switched on players
are.
“Hat and gloves. Are they good? It depends how cold it
is!” The Irish legend added: “I regret not enjoying results a bit
more when I was a player. I tended to save it up to the end of the
season and then have a mad six weeks!
“I very rarely celebrated during the season — you can’t
relax in this game.”
