5 years later...
Icon: Already made captain despite the age of 38 years
old and he hasn't even played his first match with Balestier
Khalsa. Now, thousands of people have started following the sleague
and Toa Payoh Stadium has reported sold out season tickets for
Balestier Khalsa's matches.
The Toa Payoh club's switchboard, ticket line
and website went down on Thursday morning in light of David
Beckham's likely arrival early 2013. The Toa Payoh-based club were
inundated with calls and requests from supporters around the world
as to when exactly Beckham would join the club.
Fans also wanted to know when they would be able to get their
hands on club shirts with the player's name and number on, and
hundreds of supporters have already had 'Beckham' printed on the
backs of their existing jerseys.
Mediacorpse have also reported a sharp rise in the demand
for tickets at the local club in light of the Englishman's
hugely-anticipated arrival.
Beckham is contracted full time to Italian Giants AC Milan, but
both parties are understood to have agreed a permanent move to
Singapore.
After deciding to move to the United States and Italy when
it appeared that his international career had been ended by former
England manager Fabio Capello, it is clear that Beckham is
committed to doing whatever it takes to keep his place in Gary
Neville's England squad. He has turned to the S League club in
an effort to seek competitive football during the summer
break, in order to keep himself high in the England manager's
mind.
Reason why he chose Singapore, he added "Oh Singapore is a
wonderful place. I've been here twice and Victoria is stoked to
hear that she have 2 premier schools named after her. Besides, she
can do her shopping here 24/7 and my sons can also have their
education here. Maybe i can get my PR here also since I am a
foreign talent and they pay me so much to bring me here and provide
free accomodation at a district 10 condo. It's also nice to see
numerous mini blue bridges for the birds at every highway and at
ends of many roads here. It's such a great country"
