Chelsea's injury woes deepened on Wednesday night
when
they lost Didier Drogba with damaged knee
ligaments. The Ivory Coast
international striker is likely to be out of action for six
weeks.
Luiz Felipe Scolari, the Chelsea manager, has already lost
midfielder Michael Essien for the majority of the season with a
knee injury and Ricardo Carvalho (knee) and Deco (thigh) are both
still out having been injured in the 1-1 Premier League draw with
Manchester United last month.
Not that the treatment room at Old Trafford has been any less
busy. Michael Carrick could be out for another 5 weeks, Owen
Hargreaves is currently still suffering from irritation of the
patella tendon. Paul Scholes is
out for ten weeks with knee ligament damage and United will
learn today how serious is the ankle injury suffered by Wayne
Rooney against Danish side Aalborg in the Champions League on
Tuesday.
Who do you think will be missed most of the players currently
sidelined and which squad do you think is better prepared to
withstand a catalogue of injuries to key players?
With Liverpool boasting a near-clean bill of health at present,
could this week’s casualty list among the Big Two open the door for
someone else to mount a credible Premier League title challenge
this season?
