BENITEZ stunned England by admitting Gerrard could face Utd

GROIN OP ... Steven Gerrard

Liverpool boss Benitez caused a storm when he sent the Liverpool skipper for a minor groin operation before England’s World Cup qualifiers against Andorra and Croatia. He claimed the op was vital and would also keep Gerrard out of the clash with their biggest rivals.

Now Benitez has sparked a bitter club v country row by admitting Gerrard could line up at Anfield. He said: “Gerrard is still progressing, so you never know. The key is the fitness of the player — it makes a massive difference if he has confidence.”

Hitman Fernando Torres could also play after suffering a hamstring injury 10 days ago. Benitez added: “It is better to avoid saying whether Gerrard and Fernando Torres can be available. It’s difficult to say.”

Chelsea sparked outrage last season when Ashley Cole and John Terry missed a Euro qualifier against Croatia through injury only to play against Derby three days later.

Where is their sense of patroitism if they know they are fit to play but prevented to do because Benitez wants to play some mind games and keep his players fresh for a crucial tie? If this is true i have lost respect for Rafa

Nope not really what did he say?

Saltiga SG

almost all managers do that, just that its always left un-said, for Rafa, he has already comes to a state where its the furthest he can take Liverpool to, he is starting to make schoolboy mistake with just about everything he did and going to do.. maybe its about time to bring in a replacement???

what's so stunning with stevie's return to face united? joke. im a liverpool fan myself, but, i think with or without torres or gerrard, we'll still lose. we are currently a joker team. playing shit style of football for the 1st 3 games of the season.

Kind of expected isn't it?

Anyway if you are a really a liverpool fan, you don't have to go around cursing liverpool as well right? Aren't you suppose to support them through thick and thin and not badmouthing them?

Liverpool fans support their team through thick and thin.

I have yet to see a Liverpool fan dump Liverpool due to their inconsistent form.

All fans want their team to beat other team.

For Liverpool, it have to be Man Utd.

At the same time, as a fan, I am most realistic of what is the condition of the team.

They are not playing fluid soccer as we have a super tinker manager.

Every season we start with a new team.

Ah Ben dun really know how to deploy his players for real.

He will drive stevie away this season.

The condition of the team is not good when we cannot beat minnow teams from Europe.
