Arsene Wenger has confirmed that Robin van Persie will
undergo an X-ray following his withdrawal from Arsenal’s 3-0 win
over Newcastle on Saturday.
“He is having an X-ray at the moment,” Wenger told reporters.
“We don’t know (the full extent of the injury).
“We have to check his ankle. Hopefully nothing is broken, I
don’t know yet.”
Van Persie turned in a highly impressive display in the win over
Newcastle, scoring twice before his substitution in the 63rd
minute.
Arsenal had to make do without the 25-year-old for long spells
of last season, a campaign which was interrupted by injury for the
Holland international.
Meanwhile, Wenger confirmed he would be working right up until
the close of the transfer window at midnight on Monday to bring in
a new midfielder.
"We are trying to buy new players," he added. "But the problem
is always first of all, the availability and also the fact that
it's finding players who are better or at least as good as the ones
we already have."
