Calderón Risking Debt Crisis Over Ronaldo

Los Merengues' high profile chase of the Portuguese star is papering over the cracks of an ever-worsening bank balance under Ramón Calderón's regime, according to El Mundo Deportivo.

Florentino Pérez managed to put the club back on even keel after the financial situation reputedly became very serious under Lorenzo Sanz, but the current board are undoing that work.

The report states that some members of the Madrid hierarchy are becoming worried because the debts are increasing at a rate of €100m-a-season and there is only €25m in the club's accounts.

A loan that would allow Madrid to pay €70m for Ronaldo has been granted by Banco Santander and that would see the reigning league champions owe even more.

Calderón has returned to using the system that Sanz introduced of spreading the club's debts out in order to disguise the true extent of what is owed, the paper continues.

If Madrid sign Ronaldo for €70m then that fee will be spread over the length of his contract and will not register as a full payment on the balance sheet, but in reality that is what will be owed.

Directors and senior club members are considering advising Calderón to stop his chase of Ronaldo and focus on adding more realistic targets to the squad, but after pledging to buy the player he may not be prevented.

If not, then there could be a backlash behind the scenes, while there are reports that the wages of the Portuguese forward could well upset certain senior members of Bernd Schuster's team.

no worries there man.. it was once reported that Real sold their training ground due to their debts but the Mayor of the town released a pc of land for a token sum for them to use.. so go ahead, make history, make Ronaldo the most expensive player in the world and at the same time make yourself the laughstock of the entire footballing world...

what if they were "talking a lot of cock" only to cause a lot of trouble?

it has happened before..

maybe they have no intention of getting Ronaldo for such a price?

now Ronaldo and MUFC not happy with each other.. no one is able to match any price which MUFC wants for him, so he's stuck there... their biggest star not happy with the management for "treating him like a slave" and the management not happy with their biggest star for looking at the club like a "shake money tree"

in the end, both MUFC and Ronaldo may not perform at their best...

and teams in the UCL with a serious chance.. like.. Real Madrid... wins!
