Milan striker Ronaldo has stated for the first time
since his cruciate knee ligament injury that his career is not
over.
The former Brazil international picked up an awful knee injury
in February and has been working on his rehabilitation since
undergoing surgery.
Ronaldo is now hopeful he will be able to run again in the next
few weeks and be fit earlier than expected, as he was tipped to be
out of action for up to nine months.
The attacker’s contract with the Rossoneri is due to end next
week Monday, and the 31-year-old does not know whether he will be
offered a new deal.
“My knee is much better now,” Ronaldo told La Gazzetta dello
Sport. “I am starting work to strengthen my muscles.
“I’ll be able to run within two or three weeks. I reckon I’m
quite optimistic. I should be able to return earlier than expected
even if it’s still premature to set a date.
“I want to play. I don’t know what to say [about his contract].
Milan never promised me anything. I regularly speak with [sporting
director] Leonardo, but I’d like to have more contact with the
club.”
