Spain coach Luis Aragones has denied claims by
Fenerbahce that he has signed a pre-contract agreement to take
charge of the Turkish club.
Reports in the Spanish press had linked Aragones with the Super
Lig side after he announced he would not be extending his contract
with the Spanish FA following the European Championships.
Those reports appeared to have been corroborated on Wednesday
when Fenerbahce announced in an official statement that the
69-year-old had agreed a deal to take over from Brazilian coach
Zico, who left the Istanbul outfit on June 10.
But speaking to reporters on the eve of Spain's Euro 2008
semi-final against Russia, Aragones insisted that no deal had been
reached. "I don't understand it because Luis hasn't signed anything
with anyone," Aragones told reporters.
He added that he did not believe the speculation surrounding his
future would affect his players ahead of their clash with Russia in
Vienna. "I don't think this will affect my team whatsoever," he
said. "It's just another story. I have not signed anything with
anybody."
When asked if he had received a contract renewal as reported, he
replied: "No, I have not received anything but that was already
known (that I would leave)."
Aragones worried that he may end up like Scolari
too...
