The Italian press is gunning for Donadoni’s head following the
Euro 2008 defeat to Spain on Sunday night.
BBC Sport today reported that The Don has been notified that he
has been sacked, however Petrucci says this is not true, and he
also played down talk that Lippi was set to return to take
charge.
"I think it's premature to be talking about the possible return
of Marcello Lippi," said Petrucci.
"Donadoni still remains the coach and I will fully support what
the federation decides.
"[Italian Football Federation president] Giancarlo Abete has
every right and freedom to make the choice he considers to be
best."
Petrucci also commented specifically on the penalty shootout
loss against Spain, and he says that he holds no one
responsible.
"I don't blame anything on the national team nor on Abete, we
simply have to accept that our rivals were better than us," he
concluded.
