Portsmouth have revealed that Sol Campbell will leave the
club this summer and may be replaced by Benfica defender Luisao in
a £12million deal.
Campbell is out-of-contract in the summer and has never
hidden his desire to play abroad, with Spanish side Villarreal
long-term admirers.
And Pompey's director of communications Gary Double has now
confirmed the 33-year-old will play his last game for the club in
the FA Cup final on May 17.
Double did not reveal Campbell's destination but the did admit
Luisao is Harry Redknapp's top target to replace the veteran this
summer.
"The assessment of Luisao is very good," Double said in the
Daily Express.
"Campbell will leave and Luisao is Redknapp's preference for the
defence.
"We have already spoken to Benfica and they have set the fee at
£12million as a starting point for negotiations."
