Toyota Motor Corp. sold more vehicles worldwide than General Motors Corp. from January to March, topping GM to become the world's No. 1 auto seller for the quarter.

Toyota (nyse: TM - news - people ) sold 2.348 million vehicles worldwide in the quarter, Toyota official said on condition of anonymity, citing company protocol.

That topped the 2.26 million vehicles sold by U.S.-based GM in the same period, the official and Kyodo News agency said.

it's expected. in fact i'm a bit surprised why this day didn't come earlier.

look at the crap GM is giving us. korean cars rebuilt as american chevrolets made in thailand. dubious build quality. outrageous reliability. enough of this.

consumers deserve better. cars today are better than ever because toyota's existence make all its rivals feel even more compelled to build better cars.

My dear sir_peanuts, Toyota is not any MUCH better..yes, they were famed for their reliability and quality, but recent Toyotas have thrown all these attributes into the trash can..quality is no longer top-notch and reliability has dropped a few notches too..WHY? All in the quest to succeed GM as the No.1 car manufacturer in the world in terms of number of cars built..heard about the recent major recalls for Toyota cars? That a great example of reliability dropping a few notches..and quality no longer being top-notch? Just go to any Toyota showroom and feel the plastics of the more recent Toyotas like the new Vios and Camry..it's no longer soft-touch plastics..it's just crappy hard plastics just like any other korean cars, especially the Vios..BUT people will still flock to buy Toyotas simply because Toyota is still the No.1 in Quality and Reliability in most people mind..I just hope after winning GM, Toyota start improving on their Quality and Reliability again..

i think he is not emphasising on the made in thai part... rather he is saying that GM is trying to pass off someone else's car as their own...

and nope there is nothing wrong with a car being made in thailand granted that is has sound technical backing frm toyota.... and in ur case of the yaris... its is not made but ASSEMBLED in thailand.. pls note the differenece... Very Happy

Ah, of cuz you might think that my view is biased, maybe after reading this article you will be enlightened..but maybe you might this article is biased too..and on your point about recalls, YES it common..but most of the time it's not COMMON for Toyota..that's why something is wrong..and I'm not biased, because I didn't even say GM is better than Toyota..I'm simply saying Toyota is no longer as good as before.. Wink

Agree! My friend bought a VIOS and he says is no different from Korea car and quality is bad.. I think Toyota is feeling more pressure from KOrean than US. Kia is becoming very aggressive and doing very well in term of price and qualities(Still not good but very value for money).

if toyota sells more cars... there will be an increased likelihood that there will be some fault with a batch of cars... its juz simple probability... in my opinion...
