Javier Mascherano hopes his loan deal with Liverpool can be turned
into a permanent move at the end of the season.
He arrived from West Ham during the 2006-07 season on an 18-month
loan, with the prospect of a full transfer to be discussed at a
later date.
But Liverpool would have to negotiate with Media Sports
Investments, which still "owns" him and Carlos Tevez.
While Tevez signed for Manchester United a year after joining West
Ham, Mascherano is still in limbo, and sources have started linking
him with a move to Spain or Italy.
Mascherano said: "It depends on what everyone decides at the end of
the season.
"I have just got to make sure everyone is happy with my
performances and they want me to stay. I want to be here to play in
the new stadium.
"We are already one of the greatest clubs in the world, but with
the plans for the future we could become the world's greatest
team."
