Colombian goalkeeper Rene Higuita has decided to return to
football after accepting a proposal from Venezuelan side Guaros de
Lara.
Higuita, who retired in 2001, is famous for his spectacular
'scorpion kick' performed during a 1995 England international at
Wembley the eccentric goalkeeper cleared a Jamie Redknapp long ball
with an astonishing piece of skill.
The 40-year-old has scored a remarkable 41 goals during his career,
37 coming from the penalty spot and four from free-kicks.
Higuita said: "This is a new challenge in my life, what I most like
to do is to play football. I was saying lately that I was retiring
because of unemployment and not because I am not able to
play.
"I am very happy for the chance that I have been given by Guaros
and I am travelling at once to Cucuta where they are doing the
pre-season work."
Higuita's new side will compete in the Premier Division next season
due to the league now involving 18 teams instead of 12.
