Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich will hold crunch talks
with Andriy Shevchenko next week before deciding whether to allow
him to go back to AC Milan.
Shevchenko, 30, endured a miserable first year in London with
Chelsea when he failed to win a regular first team place because of
a lack of form and injuries.
That has led to AC Milan vice president Adriano Galliano making
enquiries about him - just 12 months after they sold him for
£30.9m.
Galliano has been in touch with Chelsea chief executive Peter
Kenyon and now Abramovich will decide on Shevchenko's future. The
Ukraine striker has insisted publicly he wants to stay at Chelsea
and Abramovich would still like him to be a success at Stamford
Bridge rather than be written off as an expensive mistake. But the
Russian billionaire will talk to Shevchenko to find out whether he
wants to stay at Chelsea or go back to AC Milan.
It is believed that if the player is desperate to leave then
Abramovich will let him go - even though they will take a huge loss
on the price they paid last summer.
But Shevchenko, along with Michael Ballack, is Chelsea's top earner
on £130,000 a week and has struggled to fit into the team and the
dressing room and boss Jose Mourinho was not happy with his
displays last season.
