Barcelona left-back Gio van Bronckhorst has accepted a
contract offer from Feyenoord, joining them on a free
transfer.
The 32-year-old had been told that he would not be a part of the
first teams plans next season, and could freely find himself
another club.
Gio, who is currently on vacation in the Netherlands, has now
accepted a contract offer from Feyenoord.
A clause in his current contract (that had another year to run on
it), which stipulated that he can leave on a free transfer this
summer should he choose to, has been invoked.
The issue has been settled without animosity, with the club
thanking him for his services over four seasons, and telling him
that he was free to sign a longer contract somewhere else.
With the signing of Eric Abidal on the cards, the Catalan giants
have their backs covered.
However, it also suggests that Sylvinho will stay on for at least
another season, with Gianluca Zambrotta continuing to play on the
right.
Van Bronckhorst has played a total of 151 games for the club over
four seasons, scoring 7 goals. He has won 2 La Liga titles, one
Champions League, and one Spanish Super Cup.
