Sunderland boss Roy Keane is eyeing an ambitious raid on
Wigan for their £6m-rated left-back Leighton Baines, according to
reports.
England Under-21 international Baines was part of Stuart Pearce's
side at the recent European Championships and Latics would be
loathe to lose the youngster.
It is claimed JJB chief Chris Hutchings is ready to offer Baines
the Wigan captaincy in a bid to ward off any interest from the
Black Cats.
Hutchings is trying to rebuild his defence and has already stated
that he wants to increase the pace in his backline.
Latics allowed Arjan de Zeeuw, Matt Jackson and David Unsworth move
on at the end of last season and it is unthinkable he would be
tempted to cash in on Baines.
