BARCA RULE OUT LAMPARD SWOOP
Barcelona have ruled out a summer swoop for Chelsea midfielder
Frank Lampard. The Spanish giants say that while they admire
Lampard as a player they're more than happy with the current
midfielders at the Nou Camp.
Lampard, booed by sections of the Wembley crowd during England's
draw with Brazil on Friday night, has yet to pen a new deal at
Stamford Bridge. And he's been linked with both Barca and Italian
giants Juventus in recent weeks.
But sporting director Txiki Beguiristain says Barcelona won't be
Lampard's destination if he does quit the Premiership. "I think he
is an extraordinary player characterised by his shots on goal and
the number of goals he scores," he told Sky Sports News. "But when
you look at our squad we are currently really well catered for in
that department.
"We have got players like Deco, Xavi and Iniesta who have similar
characteristics as well as amazing control of the ball. "At the
moment we are really happy with our trio of midfielders. "So as
things stand there really isn't space for another player of this
type."
